Learner Autonomy

Learner autonomy is an indispensable part of higher level education because students might have a limited amount of time within the classroom, but a great amount of knowledge to acquire. As a result, they should be independent and self reliant enough to take responsibility for what to learn and how to learn it. Educators are also expected to trust their students when it comes to autonomous learning. Helping students to find learning strategies, realizing their roles as learners and modeling them in the classroom can be helpful in constructing learner autonomy.
